Heavy Appliance Stability and Anti-Tip Requirements

Heavy appliance stability and anti-tip requirements: Overview

Heavy appliance stability and anti-tip requirements — this page covers the causes, symptoms, safe checks, and repair-cost guidance drawn from La Cornue owner documentation and certified service records.

Appliance Stability and Anti-Tip Device Requirements

La Cornue ranges are substantial, precision-crafted appliances. A 90cm Château or CornuFé range can weigh in excess of 400 lbs (180 kg) fully assembled. Improper installation that does not account for the appliance’s weight and center of gravity when the oven door is open poses a serious tipping hazard, particularly in households with children.

Anti-Tip Device Installation

All freestanding La Cornue ranges must be secured with an anti-tip bracket anchored to the floor or rear wall structure in accordance with the installation manual for the specific model. The anti-tip bracket engages with the rear leg of the appliance and prevents forward rotation if excessive weight is applied to the open oven door. La Cornue’s authorized installation team will install the anti-tip device as part of the commissioning process. If you have moved the appliance for any reason — including for cleaning or service — verify that the anti-tip bracket has been re-engaged before returning the range to service.

Leveling Requirements

La Cornue ranges must be level both front-to-back and side-to-side for safe and correct operation. An out-of-level range increases the risk of tipping and affects oven convection airflow, baking performance, and the operation of the oven door’s counterbalance hinge mechanism. Adjust the appliance’s four leveling feet to achieve level, confirm with a bubble level placed on a rack inside the oven cavity, and verify that the oven door opens and closes evenly without binding.
