Recall Notice: Electric Range Control Board Thermal Runaway Risk

Recall Reference: LC-2024-CB-018  |  Date Issued: August 11, 2024

Affected Models

This recall applies to La Cornue Electric Induction Range models EIR-90 and EIR-110 manufactured between January 2023 and March 2024. Affected serial numbers run from EI23010001 to EI24030600 and are printed on the label inside the bottom drawer cavity on the left side wall.

Issue Description

La Cornue has determined that the main electronic control board in the affected electric range models contains a voltage regulation component — specifically a filter capacitor in the relay drive circuit — that was sourced from a supplier batch with below-specification dielectric tolerance. Under high-demand cooking cycles (multiple induction zones active simultaneously at maximum power), the capacitor may fail in a short-circuit mode, causing the relay driver circuit to enter a thermal runaway condition. This can result in scorching of the control board’s polycarbonate enclosure and, in rare instances, localized combustion of the board itself.

Consumer Remedy

As a precautionary measure, avoid running three or more induction zones at power level 9 or above simultaneously until your unit has been repaired. If you notice a burning smell, discoloration around the control panel, or unresponsive controls, shut the range off at the circuit breaker immediately and do not use it until serviced.

La Cornue will replace the main control board at no charge. Contact 1-800-522-6776 or [email protected] to arrange a factory-authorized repair. The control board replacement takes approximately 90 minutes and requires disconnection of the 240V supply circuit.
