Grease Buildup Prevention and Hood Filter Safety

Grease buildup prevention and hood filter safety: Overview

Grease buildup prevention and hood filter safety — this page covers the causes, symptoms, safe checks, and repair-cost guidance drawn from La Cornue owner documentation and certified service records.

Grease Buildup Prevention and Range Hood Filter Safety

Accumulated grease is one of the most serious fire hazards associated with high-output cooking appliances. La Cornue ranges generate sufficient heat to ignite grease deposits rapidly. Regular cleaning of both the appliance and the range hood ventilation system is essential to safe operation.

Range Hood Filter Maintenance

La Cornue range hood baffle filters are constructed of heavy-gauge stainless steel and should be removed and washed in hot soapy water or a commercial degreaser every four to six weeks under normal cooking use — more frequently if the range is used intensively. Filters saturated with grease substantially reduce the hood’s ability to capture combustion byproducts and cooking vapors, and a heavily laden filter can itself become a fire source if exposed to sufficient heat. Never operate the range hood with filters removed, as unfiltered grease vapor will coat the interior ductwork and fan.

Duct and Fan Cleaning

Even with regular filter cleaning, grease deposits will accumulate over time in the ductwork and on the fan impeller. La Cornue recommends professional duct and hood cleaning by a NFPA 96-qualified contractor annually for residential installations, or every six months in households where the range is used daily for extended cooking sessions. Grease-laden ductwork is a common ignition source in kitchen fires and represents an elevated risk above high-output professional cooking equipment.
